Activities – 2010-2011

Indian Red Cross Society, U.T. Branch maintains its reputation and position as an effective humanitarian organization having capacity to help the Society through welfare activities. The Society aims to inspire, encourage and initiate all forms of humanitarian activities, so that the human suffering is minimized. With this aim in view, the Society provided following services during the year 2010-2011.

(1) Welfare & Other Activities
During the financial year 2010-11 the following Voluntary Blood Donation Camps and Medical Awareness and Medical Check-up camps were organized :-

  • Medical Health and Awareness Camp was organized on 10-04-2010 at Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 56, Palsora, Chandigarh. The camp was organized in collaboration with Health Department U.T. Chandigarh. The camp was inaugurated by Home-cum-Secretary Health, Chandigarh Administration. 400 patients availed free consultation and free medicine.
  • Medical Health and Awareness Camp was organized on 29-05-2010 at Poly. Clinic, Mauli Jagran, U.T. Chandigarh. The camp was organized in association with the Health Care India led by Brig (Dr.) M.L. Kataria. The camp was inaugurated by Sh. D.P. Khandelia, Treasurer-cum-Member of Managing Body, Indian Red Cross Society, U.T. Chandigarh. 380 patients availed free consultation and free medicine.
  • Medical Health and Awareness Camp was organized on 30.10.2010 at Ram Darbar Rural Poly Clinic, U.T. Chandigarh. The camp was organized in association with the Health Care India led by (Dr.) M.L. Kataria. The camp was inaugurated by Health Secretary-cum-Home Secretary, U.T. Chandigarh. 445 Patients availed free consultation and free medicine.
  • Medical Health and Awareness Camp was organized on 30.10.2010 at Ram Darbar Rural Poly Clinic, U.T. Chandigarh. The camp was organized in association with the Health Care India led by (Dr.) M.L. Kataria. The camp was inaugurated by Health Secretary-cum-Home Secretary, U.T. Chandigarh. 445 Patients availed free consultation and free medicine.
  • Medical Health and Awareness Camp was organized on 28-12-2010 at Poly Clinic, Sarangpur Chandigarh. The camp was organized in association with the Health Care India led by Brig (Dr.) M.L. Kataria. The camp was inaugurated by Smt. Amarkulwant Singh, Member of Managing Body. 278 patients availed free consultation and free medicine.
  • Medical Health and Awareness Camp was organized on 06.02.2011 at Govt. High School, Colony No. IV, Chandigarh. The camp was organized in association with the Health Department, U.T. Chandigarh. 450 patients availed free consultation and free medicine.
  • Medical Health and Awareness Camp was organized on 13.02.2011 at Govt. Primary School, Colony No. V, Chandigarh. The camp was organized in association with the Health Department, U.T. Chandigarh. 330 patients availed free consultation and free medicine.
  • Medical Health and Awareness Camp was organized on 20.02.2011 at Govt. Primary School, Palsora, Chandigarh. The camp was organized in association with the Govt. Medical College Sector 32, Chandigarh. 428 patients availed free consultation and free medicine.
  • Medical Health and Awareness Camp was organized on 27.02.2011 at Govt. Middle School, Indira Colony, Manimajra, Chandigarh. The camp was organized in association with the Govt. Medical College Sector 32, Chandigarh. 340 Patients availed free consultation and free medicine.
  • Blood Donation Camp was organized on 21-04-2010 at Community Care Centre, Sector 35, Chandigarh in association with Sh. Abhinav Bhindra Foundation. Mr. Abhinav Bhindra inaugurated the camp. 82 units of blood were collected.
  • Blood Donation Camp was organized on 02.08.2010 at Big Bazaar, Zirakhpur in association with Big Bazaar. 55 units of blood were collected.
  • Celebrated the World Red Cross Day on 8th May, 2010 by organizing a cycle rally from Sukhna Lake to the Karuna Sadan Building, Sector 11, Chandigarh. The rally was flagged off by Sh. Pradip Mehra, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh. Around 200 students from Govt Model School, Sector 10, Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Sector-8, Govt Senior Secondary School, Sector-23 and Guru Nanak Public School, Sector-36, Chandigarh participated in the rally. The students carried play-cards depicting the theme of the World Red Cross Day – “Urbanization” and the challenges associated with it relating to water and environmental pollution, violence, spread of non communicable diseases, unhealthy dietary patterns, physical inactivity and harmful use of alcohol/drugs etc.
  • Sh. P.K. Shrivastva, I.G.P., Chandigarh, Sh. Brijendra Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, U.T. Chandigarh, Sh. H.S. Doon, Senior Superintendent of Police, Chandigarh and other senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration were also present on the occasion along with members of the Managing Body of Red Cross.
  • A function was also organized at Karuna Sadan Building for distribution of sewing machines to the girls from economically weaker sections, wheel chairs to the handicapped and hearing aids to the poor patients.
  • The Society is running a ‘Jan Aushadi Generic Drug Outlet’ at GMSH, Sector 32 & GMSH Sector 16, Chandigarh where the quality medicines are being provided to public at affordable prices.
  • The Indian Red Cross Society, U.T. Chandigarh has entered into agreement with ICICI Lombard on 20.08.2010 to implement the 2nd year of RSBY Scheme. 4913 beneficiaries have been enrolled by holding various camps in the month of September, 2010.
  • Two high roof ambulances were added to the existing fleet of ambulances with an aim to provide better facilities to the residence of the city.
  • 1524 Blankets were distributed on the eve of New Year in association with the Department of Social Welfare, U.T. Chandigarh to the poor and needy persons sleeping without roof and proper bedding.
  • 1000 blankets were distributed in association with The MMTC, Ltd Company, a Govt of India Enterprises.
  • 7500 blankets were distributed to the labor working at various construction sites in the city. This campaign was carried out in association with Labor Department, U.T., Chandigarh.
  • A Red Cross contingent comprising of the students of Govt. Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, Chandigarh took part in the March Past Parade and Display of Tableau on 26th January,2011.
